Tour France by motorhome rental
Let yourself be surprised during a motorhome tour of France by the variety of special natural areas of this popular vacation country. From beautiful beaches with an azure blue sea at the Côte d'Azur to rough white chalk cliffs in Normandy and from lovely purple lavender fields in Provence to the highest peaks of the French Alps. The great diversity of landscapes, historic villages, ancient castles, beautiful campsites, culture and varied climate, make France one of the world's most favorite vacation destinations.
France is an ideal country to move from campsite to campsite to explore the surrounding mountains, picturesque valleys, beautiful bays and many unique towns or villages. Tour along the water and, for example, drive along the miles of coastline from Calais through Normandy and Brittany south to Bordeaux and Les Landes. Cross the French Pyrenees towards the Mediterranean Sea, where you can enjoy the azure blue sea and beautiful weather from your motorhome along the rocky coasts and white beaches. Via the Corniche d'Or that runs along the coast from St. Raphaël to Mandelieu and Cannes, you can contemplate the red-colored Esterel Mountains. Drive winding roads through eastern France through the mountainous regions of the Ardèche, the French Alps and the Jura. Here you will find spectacular alpine landscapes with deep river gorges, clear blue lakes and impressive waterfalls. There is something for everyone and its central location makes it easy to combine a trip to one of the neighboring countries.
France is dotted with beautiful campsites of all shapes and sizes. But it is also possible to spend the night with your camper in parking lots and RV parks. These RV parks are specially equipped with all the comforts and necessities for RVs, where you can stay for a maximum of 24 hours. They are often in beautiful locations with stunning views, and are even often free of charge. Wild camping is allowed in France, provided you do not cause damage or nuisance. Only free camping in protected natural areas, on the beach or within 500 meters of monuments is not allowed. Keep in mind, however, that toll roads can quickly cost you dearly. The many inland roads and national N roads are often a much nicer and more economical alternative. The campsites are easily accessible via these roads and this way you will discover much more of the pure French country. Pick up your rental motorhome at one of France's six depots (or from the Netherlands) and experience the ultimate form of freedom and adventure.
Northern France
Not too far from home, you can already enjoy a lovely, rolling landscape full of vineyards and charming villages in the north of France. Even for shorter vacations, you can get away from it all and relax in the green countryside of northern France. On the coast of Brittany, Normandy, the Bay of Somme and the opal coast just below Calais are beautiful natural areas. Here you can even see the English cliffs and a little further south you can get a breath of fresh air on top of the chalk white rock cliffs of Normandy. More inland, you can visit one of the impressive Gothic Cathedrals with fragrant rose gardens. Moreover, the romantic city of Paris is never far away. A topper in northern France if you are traveling with children is, of course, Disneyland Paris.
France's northernmost wine region is the Champagne region. This is where the famous bubbles come from and are great to combine with a tour of the beautiful countryside. Travel past peaceful vineyards, colorful sunflowers, waving grain fields and through beautiful forests. The lake area "Lac de la Fôret d'Orient" is often used for swimming and other water sports. But bird watchers also often turn up here in autumn for the migrating cranes on their way south. The medieval city of Troyes with an old center and some beautiful historic buildings, such as Cathedral St-Pierre-et-St-Paul is well worth a visit. In the most northeastern part of France, Alsace (Alsace) borders Germany to the east and Switzerland to the south. This region is known for its delicious Alsace wines. The medium-high mountain range of the Vosges Mountains is Alsace's main green destination and lies on the border with the region of Lorraine (Lorraine). The spherical peaks characterize this area, also called 'ballons' in French. In the 'Great Vosges' are the highest peaks and the highest peak is the Grand Ballon, which reaches a height of 1424 meters. In the Parc Naturel Régional de Lorraine, located between the major cities of Nancy and Metz, glistening rivers wind their way through the beautiful hilly landscape . A vacation to northern France not only has much to offer lovers of nature, culture and art as well as delicious food and drink.
Central France
The middle of France is still relatively little visited as a vacation destination. People often stop here because it is about halfway from the Netherlands to the south. But the ancient castles, historic villages, dormant volcanoes, thermal springs, impressive landscape and tranquility of the green heart of France has a lot to offer. Explore the regions of Auvergne, Bourgogne, Centre and Limousin on your motorhome tour of France.
In the heart of France, the rugged and unspoiled landscape of Auvergne is characterized by the very old mountains of the Massif Central. Besides picturesque villages and the irresistible local cuisine, you will also find volcanic mountains and gigantic glacial valleys of the Cantal in the southwest. More to the east lies the Haut- Loire, which boasts many amazing hiking trails. Because of the ruggedness of this large area, few people live there, making it an ideal destination for peace seekers, nature lovers and hikers. Just above Auvergne is the vast wine region of Burgundy, with the wine capital of Beaune. The many vineyards, castles and the impressive hilly nature reserve of the Morvan characterize this beautiful region. The Loire region, officially called the Centre region, is known for its medieval castles and impressive Renaissance buildings that line the banks of the Loire River. Don't skip the green heart of France during your RV trip through this diverse country.
Southern France
The pleasant Mediterranean climate and beautiful beaches with the turquoise blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea make the south of France a popular vacation destination. A tour of southern France has something for everyone. From chic boulevards of the Côte d'Azur to soothing long sandy beaches of the Languedoc and from steep cliffs of Gorges du Verdon to the high peaks of the French Pyrenees. Dream away at the purple lavender fields of Provence, brave the Ardèche River by kayak or taste the flavorful grapes of Bordeaux. Discover the diversity of the different regions belonging to southern France; Aquitaine, Languedoc-Roussillon and Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur with a rental motorhome from GoTravelhome.
The clear blue Mediterranean Sea and the lavender and sunflower fields of Provence have the greatest appeal to tourists. Glamorous seaside resorts alternate with beautiful bays with white sandy beaches. A little further on, the lovely countryside gives way to rugged rock formations and ravines in the Ardèche. For lovers of variety, Languedoc- Roussillon is an ideal vacation destination, stretching from the miles of beaches on the coast to the mountains of the Cevennes. Enjoy the magnificent view of deep gorges and circling vultures above this unspoiled nature reserve. But the snowy peaks of the Pyrenees are also within easy reach here. Located on the southwest coast of France, Aquitaine overlooks the high waves of the Atlantic Ocean. Stroll through the fragrant pine forests, grab a terrace in the surfing town of Biarritz, stroll over the highest dunes of Les Landes or visit the castle of Beynac-et-Cazenac in the Dordogne.
