Motorhome rental in Canada
Would you like to rent a motorhome in Canada? For lovers of unspoiled nature, traveling by motorhome in Canada is an unforgettable adventure. Vast forests, azure lakes, impressive mountain ranges and interesting flora and fauna make the second largest country in the world a vacation paradise!
The country is very vast over an entire continent between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. In addition, Canada borders the United States in the south and the northern ice sea in the north. Renting a motorhome in Canada gives you the necessary flexibility and freedom to get to know this huge country.
The benefits of renting a motorhome in Canada
RV travel across Canada gives you a sense of freedom. You can decide your own route, get out where you want and for how long. At the end of the day there is no need to search for a hotel and no need to pack and unpack your bags. You can spend the night in the most beautiful places, for example by a beautiful lake or in one of the many nature reserves or National Park. Every night you sleep in the same bed and at all times you can prepare your own food and picnic wherever you want. Renting an RV in Canada therefore gives you a fantastic sense of freedom and convenience. Driving in Canada is usually a lot quieter than ours. Other road users are often very tolerant.
Renting an RV in Canada and living in it
To Europeans, North American motorhomes seem huge. But everything is bigger in this continent and driving such a large vehicle is not so bad - the roads are bigger, so are the campgrounds and supermarket parking lots. Are you going to rent an RV in Canada? If so, we do not recommend driving a motorhome through a big city like Montreal or Quebec. Every motorhome or camper is equipped with a kitchen with at least a gas stove and a refrigerator, sometimes with a freezer. Many RV models also have a microwave in the kitchen. Cooking utensils, cutlery, plates, glasses, hand and tea towels are usually part of a kitchen kit you can rent. Bedding can also be rented as a separate package. We recommend bringing soft suitcases and bags instead of the "hard cover" suitcases. Soft cases take up less space when empty and are easier to store in a closet of the vehicle.
Preparing for a motorhome rental in Canada
Would you like to rent a motorhome in Canada? Then we advise you to prepare well for your trip. Traveling by motorhome in Canada is very easy, but the distances are very long. The country is larger in size than Europe and therefore it is necessary to make choices. As a starting point when planning your trip, we recommend that you definitely do not travel more than 150 to 200 kilometers per day on average. In Canada, RVs and motorhomes are usually offered without mileage. You should estimate at the time of booking how many kilometers you will drive and purchase the required number of packages. Extra kilometers can be charged upon return of the motorhome, unused kilometers are non-refundable.
Traffic regulations
Are you going to rent an RV in Canada and curious about the traffic rules? The traffic rules are not much different than in Europe. There are also strict laws on driving under the influence of alcohol and speeding. Pedestrians always have the right of way. When a school bus stops, you must always stop in the direction of travel of the bus and also the opposite direction. Driving on is a serious offense. Drivers and passengers must always use seat belts, and child seats have strict safety requirements. These are not offered by most motorhome rental companies, due to liability concerns.
Motorhome Rentals in Canada
After arriving from Europe, you are required to spend at least one night in a hotel. Only the next day are you allowed to rent an RV in Canada. You must stay overnight in campgrounds with your motorhome. In Canada, there are lots of campgrounds of all shapes and sizes. In National Parks, they are often very basic in terms of facilities, but very nicely located and with very spacious sites in the middle of nature.
Reservations for campsites in Canada
Often it is not necessary to make reservations. However, during the high season and on national holidays, it is recommended to reserve a place in advance. In National Parks and at, the spots are very limited and sought after, and in high season it is crowded. You can reserve campsites very easily online.
What driver's licenses do I need to rent an RV in Canada?
If you want to rent an RV in Canada, as a driver you must always carry a valid, national driver's license. For Canada it is not mandatory, but advisable, to also have an international driver's license. You can obtain this from the ANWB. Only the international driver's license is not valid, you should always have your Dutch license with you as well. All motorhomes on the GoTravelhome site can be driven with a B license. Sometimes there are additional conditions such as age or number of years in possession of a driver's license.
