The Sydney Harbour Bridge is the bridge in Sydney. After 6 years of construction, the bridge was opened on March 19, 1932 by Jack Lang, the Prime Minister of New South Wales. The Harbour Bridge is the widest arch bridge in the world. The bridge deck accommodates eight lanes of vehicular traffic, two train tracks, a bicycle path and a footpath.
A tourist activity is the Sydney Bridge climb, a climb/hike across the arch of the Harbour Bridge. The hike takes about 3.5 hours. Once at the top after climbing about 200 steps one has a beautiful view. Because of the risks and severity of the climb, each participant must be in good physical condition. Safety training and a safety harness are mandatory.
